Mexico

In February, Paul and I traveled to Mexico...

We spent time in Acumal, Tulum, Valladolid and Chichen Itza. We had great weather and had fun exploring pyramids, beaches, old colonial towns and cenotes (underground pools of water). We had our own rental car and used airbnb for lodging, so we were able to really create our own vacation the way we wanted it. I wish I could spend more time in Mexico so I could learn to speak better Spanish.

While we were in Tulum, we arranged for a tour of a more remote area of the coast just south of Tulum where we could see wildlife, a small fishing village, deserted beaches and amazingly turquoise waters. The water was extremely warm in this area and the locals call it "The Bathtub". Another area we liked exploring were the Mayan ruins in Tulum. They were incredible, located right on the cliffs above the ocean. There were also practically hundreds of iguanas roaming around, and if we weren't careful, they would grab our food.

Pyramid at Chichen Itza

We spent the day exploring the grounds at Chichen Itza, an ancient Meso-American site, where we checked out rock carvings and the pyramid. It was really hot and humid that day--our clothes and hair were sticking to us. Afterwards, we made sure to hit a cenote, an underground swimming hole fed by natural springs. That really cooled us off!

Delicious raw food in Tulum

There was such a vast array of great restaurants in Tulum, it was tough to choose where to eat. We had a lot of fun checking out the town of Tulum and it's various restaurants with both traditional and innovative cuisine. Raw Love, located steps from the beack, was one of our favorite places!

Beachfront Cafe in Acumal

Acumal is a small town located pretty close to Tulum, and was where Paul's family was hosting a family reunion. Here, we had just finished lunch--a perfect day of sun, beach and great food. What better way to spend time with new friends and family!
