U.S.

I had several opportunities to travel around the U.S. this year...

I love to take road trips, and this year I drove to Michigan, New Mexico, and Arkansas. In March, I took a trip to Kauai, Hawaii for a couple of weeks to visit my boyfriend and to get some warm weather. I also flew to California for a brief visit in the Lake Tahoe area. And there are so many great places in Colorado, like Paonia, Crawford, and Marble. Many of the places I like to visit have natural hot springs, like Avalanche Hot Springs near Redstone, CO, Pagosa Springs, Sulphur Hot Springs, Ojo Caliente in New Mexico, and of course the hot springs down in Glenwood Springs.

One of my favorite things to do is to travel with my pop-up camper and stay in campgrounds along the way. On my trip to Arkansas, where my family lives, I brought 3 of my kids with me and we stayed in a KOA campground in Salina, KS. Though we had a lot of fun on our road trip, we also had to deal with a shredded camper tire. Luckily we were able to get it repaired before we even left Colorado. Another mishap was a shredded electrical plug that we discovered at the KOA in Salina--it must've fallen out and dragged on the highway as we drove. We were able to get it repaired while we ate our breakfast at an Ihop, and before long, we were back on the road to Little Rock.

Another of my favorite pasttimes is stand-up paddlboarding. I like to bring my board with me on road trips and take it out if we camp near some water, or if there is a nice lake at my destination.

Lavender Fields in Abiquiu, New Mexico

Driving to Ojo Caliente from Pagosa Springs, Paul and I came across a place that grew lavender and sold lavender products. The whole place smelled so great, it was the perfect place to stop in the middle of a road trip for a bit of rejuvenation. We ended up buying some lavender spray in the gift shop afterwards and still use it in the car from time to time to make things smell great.

Hiking Trail in North Little Rock, Arkansas

This trail in North Little Rock is a nice break from the city, and I have never heard of anyone actually coming across any unexploded bombs or grenades. I did, however, keep my eyes peeled for any quartz crystals, as the area from Little Rock all the way to Oklahoma has the largest, most contiguous vein of quartz crystal in the world.

Camping at the KOA in Salina, KS

Here's the trusty camper that has housed us in many lovely places all over the U.S. It's at this campsite that we discovered the shredded electrical plug that connects the camper to the car, providing electricity for the brakes and brake lights. The plug was fixed lickety split the next morning at a local RV repair shop.
